|Chicago hotel prices jump as summer begins|
|Wednesday, 09 May 2012 10:13|
(Relaxnews) - Hotel prices in the Windy City soared by 23 percent this month, according to new research by Trivago.
Chicago saw a whopping 24 percent increase in hotel prices between April and May, the hotel booking site said this week, leaving travelers paying an average of $257 a night for a bed.
It was the largest rise observed in the monthly hotel price index, which tracks prices in 23 of America's most popular tourist destinations.
The second largest jump came in San Francisco, where prices gained 18 percent to pass the $200 mark for the first time this year, with an average night costing $214.
Unsurprisingly given the summer season, most places saw an average price increase -- the cost across all of the destinations this month stands at $180, compared to $172 in April.
However, both Phoeniz, AZ and Miami, FL saw price falls, of 14 percent (to $112 a night) and 11 percent (to $164 a night) respectively (photo-jochemberends).
